Performance Opportunities, Festivals, Competitions, Exams

Concrete goals motivate students to practice more and to practice better. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in exams, festivals and competitions. Fees for these activities are in addition to your monthly tuition and range from $12 - $55. A few of the possibilities are:

• MMTA (Minnesota Music Teachers Association) Programs:
     Piano and Theory Exams, Piano and Composition Contests, Duet Festival, Music Bridges
• SPPTA (St. Paul Piano Teachers Association):
     Monthly Recitals; Concerto Competition
• APPI (Association of Professional Piano Teachers):
     Piano and Composition Festival

Studio Recitals

For children and teenagers, studio recitals are held three times a year. The fall recital is usually at an assisted living facility and the January and May recitals are held at a church.

For adults, piano soirees are held two-three times a year. These gatherings are social events where students can share their music with other adult learners.

I encourage students of all ages to share their musical gifts as much as possible. Let me know of opportunities to perform or accompany at church, talent shows, family gatherings and school so we can prepare for them together. Performing can be motivating, skill building, and fun!
